CITY OF ZUMBROTA

COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

MAY 7, 2015

6:00 P.M.

TOWN HALL

 

Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, Mayor Rich Bauer called the Zumbrota City Council to order at 6:00 p.m.  PRESENT:  Mayor Rich Bauer; Council members Dale Hinderaker, Tina Hostager and Sara Durhman.   Absent: Brad Drenckhahn. Others present: City Administrator Neil Jensen, Public Works Director Mike Olson, City Accountant Kim Simonson, Police Chief Pat Callahan, Community Development Director Dan King, Library Director James Hill, NewsRecord reporter Tawny Michaels, and Jim Wedge.  Also present were members of Brownie Troop 26500: Ava Knott, Rachel Krinke, Abby Plank, Abigail Rockne, Melanie Raasch, Aubry Allen, Jayla Schultz, Alison Krinke, Cindy Schultz, Allison Kott, and Alexis Knott.

 

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

AMENDMENTS/ADOPTION OF AGENDA

Motion Durhman, second Hinderaker to adopt the agenda.  Approved 4-0-0.

 

MINUTES

Motion Hinderaker, second Durhman, to approve the Board of Equalization meeting minutes of April 16, 2015 with a correction to the date.  Approved 3-0-1 (Hostager abstaining).

 

Motion Hinderaker, second Durhman, to approve the regular City Council meeting minutes of April 16, 2015.  Approved 4-0-0.

 

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE

Motion Hostager, second Hinderaker to approve the accounts payable of $60,058.47.

Approved 4-0-0.

 

PUBLIC COMMENT

Mayor Bauer welcomed Brownie Troop 25600.

 

PUBLIC HEARINGS/MEETINGS

NEW BUSINESS:

8-A.  Girl Scout Brownie Troop 25600 (Little Free Library)

The members of Brownie Troop 25600 gave a presentation on Little Free Libraries.  The Little Free Library program promotes reading by having stewards build and maintain small libraries from which people can take or leave books.  The girls have learned about this while working on their Journey badge.  Durhman suggested City Staff may be able to help if needed on install. Mayor Bauer stated that the libraries should held back from the curb about 5-10 feet for safety reasons.   The Council thanked the girls for their presentation.  Motion Hostager, second Durhman to support the Little Free Library Program.  Approved 4-0-0.

 

 

 

 

 

8-B.  Wastewater Treatment Plant Control Building Floor Repair

Public Works Director Olson presented two quotes for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Control Building Floor.  The quotes are as follows:

Polytek            $4,957.00

Swede Brothers            $9,604.00 

Motion Hinderaker, second Hostager to approve the quote for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Control Building Floor with Polytek for a total of $4,957.00.  Approved 4-0-0.

 

8-C.  Covered Bridge Music & Arts Festival Fireworks Permit

Motion Durhman, second Hinderaker to approve the Covered Bridge Music & Arts Festival fireworks permit.  Approved 4-0-0.

 

Reports:

City Administrator Neil Jensen:

Told the Council the old computer software could not provide the data needed for the water study therefore the rates will be supplied off the new software in the June/July timeframe.  He also reported the crack sealing on Jefferson was near completion.  He will be sending a thank you to the Zumbrota Mazeppa Schools and students for their assistance in planting trees and working on public property.

 

Community Development Director Dan King:

Thanked the Council for approving the fireworks permit.  He updated them on festival activities and asked for input on the Grand Marshal.

 

City Accountant Kim Simonson:

Reported the field work for the audit was completed and said she and Cindy Thompson are learning the new software. 

 

The Zumbrota City Council meeting was adjourned at 6:25 p.m.
