Mill & 6th St Reconstruction Project

Sod placed this spring on the Mill & 6th Street and East 9th Street projects has gone through its 30 day maintenance period and is now the homeowner's responsibility.  Tips to care for new sod can be found here.

Upcoming schedule:

Beginning in May

• Damaged concrete will be repaired throughout the project
• Tree planting will occur in yards where trees were removed.

Beginning the week of May 12th:

• Sod will be placed in the alley and areas where the original sod did not grow. Care for the new sod will be the homeowner's responsibility after a 30 day maintenance period from the time of placement. Sod placed last year is now the homeowners responsibility. Tips to care for new sod are posted on the City website.

Beginning in June:

• The final lift of pavement with be placed on Mill Street and 6th Street

Upcoming schedule:

Work on 6th Street

• Sanitary sewer and watermain will be installed between Lincoln Avenue and Jefferson Drive.

• The road will be graded and rocked from Warren Avenue to Jefferson Drive.
• Concrete curb & gutter and concrete driveways are scheduled to start the week of October 7th. Residents will be unable to use their driveways for 7 days after driveway concrete is poured and should plan accordingly.

Work on Mill Street

• The intersection of Lincoln Avenue and 6th Street will be closed starting Monday (9-9-24).
• Sanitary sewer and watermain will be installed between Warren Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.
• The road on 6th St. will be graded and rocked from Central Ave through the Warren Ave intersection. Intersection access may be temporarily disrupted throughout the day, but will be restored by the end of each work day.

• Road will be graded and rocked.

• Sod installation will begin.

• Sanitary sewer and watermain will continue to be installed working west.
• Access through the Warren and 6th Street intersection will be closed starting Tuesday (9-3-24).  The plan is to have access across the intersection by the following weekend. Residents should plan on parking on side streets during this time.

• Road will be graded and rocked.

• Blacktop paving is expected to be completed on Friday.
• Access to Cougar Care and the Primary School should come from Jefferson Drive on Thursday and Friday this week.
• Blacktop pavement can be driven on hours after placed and will be cool enough to walk or bike on the next day.

No restrictions to any of the school entrances is expected by Tuesday 9-3.

Work on 6th Street

• Watermain will be installation between Central Avenue and Warren Avenue.
• Work in the alley between Warren Ave and Central Ave
• Starting Monday (8-12-24) sanitary sewer and watermain will be installed. Residents should plan to have no alley access until this work is completed.

 Work on Mill Street

• Road will be rocked and opened to local traffic.
• Residents will be switched off temporary water.

Concrete curb & gutter and concrete driveways scheduled to start Wednesday 8-14-24 for all of Mill Street and 6th Street between Mill Street and Central Avenue.  Residents will be unable to use their driveways for 7 days after driveway concrete is poured and should plan accordingly.

• Watermain installation to resume after utility work on Mill Street is completed.

• Watermain will be completed between Central Avenue and Jefferson Drive.
• Water and sewer services will be reconnected between Central Avenue and Jefferson Drive.

The Cougar Care lot should not be used by residents for parking between 6AM to 6PM M-F. Residents can park at the primary school but are encouraged to find alternative parking during the day as there will be limited parking with more staff returning in August.

Concrete curb & gutter and concrete driveways are tentatively scheduled for the week of August 12th for Mill Street and the portion of 6th Street that has been rocked.  Blacktop Pavement is tentatively scheduled for the Week of August 26th.

• Starting Monday (7-15-24) sanitary sewer and watermain will be installed between the alley and Warren Avenue.
• Alley access from 6th street will be closed starting Monday (7-15-24)
• Access through the Warren and 6th Street intersection will be closed starting Tuesday (7-15-24) while utilities are being installed.  The plan is to have access across the intersection by the weekend. Residents should plan on parking on side streets during this time.

• Sanitary sewer and watermain will be installed on Mill Street between Central Avenue and Jefferson Drive.
• Storm sewer will be completed at the Central Avenue intersection.

• 6th Street from the Alley to Central Avenue will remain closed.
• Water and sanitary services to homes will be installed.

• Temporary water lines will be placed and tested on Mill Street between Jefferson Drive and Central Avenue.  Affected properties will have their water service switched to the temporary lines.
• Removal of road rock and concrete curb.
• Sanitary sewer and watermain will be installed on Mill Street between Central Avenue and Jefferson Drive after removals are complete and temporary water system is installed.
• Storm sewer will be installed on Mill Street between 6th Street and Central Avenue.
• Residents on Mill Street will have disrupted vehicular access to their homes. Parking on side streets may be required.

Upcoming schedule:

Trees have been marked for removal along the project.  Tree removal is scheduled to start on Monday, 3-11.
Mill & 6th Street will be closed to through traffic and on street parking will no longer be allowed starting Monday, 3-18.
Mill & 6th Street will be reclaimed (turned to gravel) starting Monday, 3-18.  The roadway will still be passable for local traffic, but delays should be expected while construction equipment shapes and compacts the rock.
Traffic control barricades, signs, and/or cones will be placed to close off active construction areas.  Your travel pattern may need to change based on the construction.  For your safety and the safety of construction personnel please follow the signage.
School traffic should come off of 5th Street and enter the parking lot from the north if possible.  School traffic to the west side of the school will need to enter and exit Mill Street from the south.
